I was just wondering how you get your best results for creating Sepia Tone in your Photos.
I often use the Sepia Filter in my Camera and I really like the colour that it gives.

I done some photos last week and One was colour and the other Sepia.
My Mate wants both Photos in Sepia !

How would you tackle this one ?

Cheers.
Joe

for me. Channel mixer adjustment layer. Then color balance layer on top to suit!

Optik Verve Virtual Photographer has some great sepia conversions. But mostly I use the Duotone > Sepia Tones Enabled > choose colors and levels I want. After this I always go back and re-adjust levels and contrast etc. to tweak the sepia.

Note: This is using PI 12 as the editor.

There's simple neat little tool that lets you see a bunch of different duotones side by side... desaturate the image, then go to image/adjustments/variations and it shows you (I think) 10 different versions. Click on a sepia toned thumbnail and you get even more variations plus you can fine tune it even more. As you will see, there's lots of duotone options too for blues, reds, etc at the first variations screen.

In Photoshop, I use the Duotone mode, usually with Black and a light orangey-brown, like Pantone 147 (you want to use a fairly light color for the second color). Try using some of the built-in Duotone presets as a starting point.

For a PS Duotone, you need to first convert to Grayscale Mode, then to Duotone, then back to RGB before saving as JPEG.

I do two things and go with whiever gives the best result for the image.

Channel mixer for bw conversion, then LAB mode curves adjustment on the channel (a or b I forget) to swing the overall image a bit to the yellow side. This also is a good way to get a pleasing overall blue cast to the image which looked nice on my headwear entry.

Other method is channel mixer followed by selective color to bump Yellow in the White, Neutrals and Blacks separately.

I use a Tritone for a sepia look, which consists of Black, PANTONE 1215 C, and PANTONE 202 C.
