So this is it... I'm leaving my beautiful tropical paradise for cold and wet Portland, Oregon. Shippers come next week to get all our junk. We have to be out of our apartment by the 3rd... I'll be in Portland on the 12th. I'm not so much scared of moving just the time it's all happening. I'm SOooOoo NOT ready for winter. I'm gonna freeze my arse off. Boo hoo me:(

It could be colder and/or wetter. Portland is a great city.

So I hear... I hope it's truly true.
BTW, how's the sushi there? I don't like really fishy fish.
Gonna miss my ahi.

Hey now, Portland is great. Cold and wet is what gives us our beautiful green. ;)

Granted it'll be a huge change from what you're used to but worry not, its been quite balmy the last few days.

Keep in mind that's a little unusual - maybe our climate is changing or something, its usually cooler and rainier by now.

But of course there's no such thing as global warming...

While Portland and the surrounding area is beautiful...the weather is not.
This year is unusual as it's been dry. Winter can be long, wet, dark and depressing. Some get used to it, some love the rain, some never do.... :*)
Welcome, let me know if you need directions or help of any kind.

GIRLFRIEND! Load up on the ahi sashimi before you leave, it'll never be as good. When Portland skies get grey and wet (and it's summer time) just jump on I5 and come on down! Warm and dry it will be in Williams. There are great thrift shops in the Portland area with lots of sweats and woolies to keep your buns warm in the mean time. Let me know when there will be a Portland GTG and I'll try to find a realiable car to come up. AAAALLLOOOOHA!

Kali, Portland may not be your idea of a tropical paradise but you could do a lot worse. It's not the desert, and not as cold as some other parts of the country. Look on the bright side. By coming back to the reality of the mainland you get to experience real seasonal changes.

kali,
just think of the new and different photo opportunities you will have. not the same old island.

If you want seasonal changes, you should visit northwest Ohio. We have seaonal changes almost on a daily basis! For example, lower 80's and sunny Monday, mid-60's and windy Tuesday, and today it's only in the 40's and very cloudy with a chance of that evil white stuff tonight!

vonautsch- You can keep your seasonally erratic Ohio. PASS

goodtempo-Oppourtuntiy schmoppourtunity... same old island... HA! good one!

Coolhar- Hawaii has seasons it just takes a good two years to recognize them.

Kava- TRUST me all I've been eating for a month is poke and poi. I'm trying to make myself sick of it before I leave... it's not working:(

Justine- I do enjoy the rain but not for weeks on end... so we'll see.
You know where Pardee St. is? I'm pretty good geographically. Give me a month and I could be a cabby. My honey who grew up here on Oahu still gets lost... frustrates the hell outta me that I have to give him directions.

You will also find highly variable weather a little to the South in the Eugene area. We went camping there once when I was a kid ... bright sunshine followed by a tremendous (nearby) lightning storm, then torrential rain, ending up with bright sunshine about 3-1/2 hours later.

About $1.559 here in Baltimore. Maybe a dime less if I am driving in Virginia.
