This shot was actually very straightforward. Very little fiddeling in Photoshop. Mainly the USM and Levels.

The base is a piece of Red glass (yes,, another piece of "weird" glass, David). Aprox. 16x16 inches. It has iridizing on the surface which helps minimize the reflection.

I placed it on 4 clear glasses and surrounde the arrangement on 2 1/2 sides with black cloth.

Under the glass sheet I placed a small halogen desk lamp, the kind with a bendable "neck" so that it shown at an angle through the the very back 1/5th of the glass surface.

This made the light rays in the back ground.

The beaker (which was impecably clean) was placed at the very front of the sheet of glass.

This can be done with almost any kind of glass or translucent material.

Glass such as this can be purchased is small sheets at any craft/art shop that sell glass for use in stained/leaded glass projects or for fusing.

Any more questions, I'll be happy to answer.
