Wow. Makes no sense at all. Tripod = evil swan luring photographer? Me thinks she's a bit loco.

right next thing she is going to say that someone had a hat once and was trying to kill a president so if you don't take the hat off then i will call the sherrif. I don't get some people.

My response to the lady in the jeep.

"Well of course he was trying to lure it out, Swans are some good eating? Yum!"

I guess you didn't see the Freak Show cartoon. Someone will get that. :P

They certainly are. A bit like osprey.

Should have told her the corn and the tripod were to lure old hags onto the road.

Obviously, a very effective tactic.

Wow. On the rare occasions I had to stow away my tripod it was because someone felt it was creating a "tripping hazard", and I can see how that can be.

But it sounds like the lady was really overreacting. I know its private land, so she can set up whatever rules she wants, but its certainly not putting a halo over her head.

Its not like we are clubbing baby seals with our tripods. Everyone knows there are special heads for that... :D

Personally I find it quite amusing Clubbing baby seals by the dawns early light. As far as tripods go I wonder what she would have said if I mounted a rifle to the tripod and started shooting..

It would be funnier if you mounted one of these on the tripod and started shooting her.

Maybe I should put that on my wish list. I've often felt the need for propelling poultry. ;>þ

I guess to the wacky lady in the gold jeep, tripod owner = swan Nazi.

Crazy.

EDIT

OMG, just had the funniest vision pop into my head: Soup Nazi from Seinfled, screaming at people by the lake "NO SWAN PICTURE FOR YOU! NEXT!!"

If I had been alone I would have pulled the "pretend your deaf and just go on about your life" bit. I really wish I had taken some pictures of her, I bet she would have "snapped".

On her property, you have to abide by her rules (ludicrous or not) or leave

I was next to a public road not on her land.

Ahhh, I didn't understand.

As long as you are within the easement for the road then you can tell her to stick it.

I think she was concerned that he might attract all the swans to his location. She wanted to make sure the swans weren't too distracted by anybody else so her church group could have them.

All of her talk about tripods or anything else was just a story.

is it a private road? if not i might have called the sheriff myself to complain about a woman in a gold jeep harassing me. then tell him you have shot three swans, and if the lady doesn't stop harassing me i'll shoot her too ;}

It was a public road.

I heard some stories of other photographers that she was telling people but they never get to tell their side because noone knows who they are. So I filed a complaint against her on the following Monday with the sheriffs dept. So now at least my name is in there if anyone wanted to get the whole story.
