I have the canon A540, just got it about two weeks ago, and love it!!
But, I need to insert a few video clips into power point, but I don't have any way of changing the file format, any suggestions, I am very short on time and need a quick solution.
Thanks in advance !! |

What format are they in? And what format do you require? |

I would like to get it to a gif format.
Right now it really doesn't say, in properties it says the type of file is "video clip". It opens with windoews media player. Was that any help? |

If you right click the file you should be able to see what the extension is. It'll probably be .AVI or .MPG
You realise you'll lose the sound if you do manange to convert it to GIF? And the quality will decrease? (GIF isn't really a good video format) |

By the way, in PowerPoint, you know you can do the following;
- Select 'Insert / Movies and Sounds / Movie from file...
And that gives you the option of inserting any of the following formats;
avi, cda, asf, asx, m1v, m3u, mp2, mp2v, mpa, mpeg, mpg etc..etc.. |

I tried insert, movie/sound, and it did not work. However, I did find a way to get the file to play through power point using media player. Now my only problem is that the movie is choppy. I need to compress it a little more, any help on that issue? |

Windows media player or Quicktime may let you save the clip in a different format.
What is the extension on the video file created by the camera? |

You need something called Virtual Dub. It opens literally every video format, and it gives you an option to convert and/or compress it any way you want. I can send it to you via mail if you want to, it's not too big( 500 kb )? |
