Go lesley go!! You have a straight!

I'm pretty consistently keeping a 1/10 comment vote ratio - which generally means a good result.

But routerguy666 is getting 1:5.5 ratio - thats generally means a ribbon!!

I remember a while ago stdavidson mentioned a formula for comments/votes and working out probable placings - I just can't remember what it was. But my only ribbon shot so far had 27 comments and 190 votes, about a 1:7 ratio

people are telling me over and over again that my borders are too big. Maybe for US standards they are, I explained in my perspective challenge (22nd place) why I like them larger. It will drag me down a few places, but I can live with the idea that u like the shot. I am not gonna change the borders just to get a few extra points here. cheers!

You may want to think about that some more. Larger borders mean smaller photos. If it's harder to judge critical sharpness or the fine details in general voters may not give you the best possible score you could have gotten if those things were more visible. This is why it is often advantageous to go with a square crop (i.e. 640x640) so that you fully maximize the size of the photo you can submit that way thet fine details can be more easily appreciated and voted on. Anyway, just food for thought.

Hm, thanks for the advice, yanko. didnt have any breakfast, so i will chew on it for a while:) I see your point. I tend to like the overall aspect of my pics, including borders, and I feel they add to the shot. I will think about it some more, but will probably stick to my ways. Thanks again for the advice!

I like the border (maybe not so big) the shot is great.

But, it really suprises me you weren't DQ'd for that border. Under Basic Rules, I've assumed that the only borders that could be made were only from rectangular selections.

Edit: Nevermind, looks like it'd be perfectly legal under the NEW basic Rules.

Only 1 out of 7 understands it so far. I probably wouldn't either had I not taken it :)

Just slunk under 6.000 in the last few hours. :-(

I join the mid 5. group: vaguely drifting on either side of 5.5 as the days pass: 5.6, 5.4, 5.5... Hmmmmm such an in-the middle place to be. But can't complain...took a risk on this one and I knew it was coming. Should have gone for the classic Diagonal shot instead :)

Some good comments. Maybe too good. I like a good critique. There is always room to improve. That said It still makes me all happy to get a compliment straight.

Yay, a fav! I'm hoping it doesn't go anywhere downhill, it was at 6.3 or a while.
