Went for a hike yesterday, and didn't bring a cf card. I noticed in the menu of my rebel xt that there is a command to take pics, w/o a cf card. Does the camera do that? If so, how do i find the pics, i took a few to see if it worked.... so now im a bit confused.

It'll go through motions of taking the pics, but w/o a card it has nowhere to store them.

I think that feature is more for diagnostics purposes.

It's going to be a disappointment, because it's just like shooting without film...

and frustrating, too.

not that *I* would know from "personal" experience, or anything . . .

The smart thing to do, is to set that option so that the camera does NOT allow you to take pictures without a CF card. That way, you are reminded right at the beginning that you've forgotten the CF card, rather than shooting a bunch of images and only noticing later.

The only use I can think of for the other option is in a store to let customers play with the camera and get a fill for how it works without putting a CF card in (and risk having the CF card pocketed by unscrupulous customers).

oh so very frustrating, not that I would know either:)

I would recommend turning the option off also

Was the first option I set on my 20D right out of the box - I just knew I would fall for this otherwise :-/
