How worried should I be.

Went out tofay and filled a memory card, mostly raw. Fuji S7000 camera, Fuji 1MB XD card, both fairly new. When I got home it was as follows -

Some files wouldn't transfer at all, corrupted or not present, but I couldn't delete them either. these were all RAW files.

Some files had colured horizontal bars across them

One file had three separate images on it, arranged in three separate panes, all slightly disbcoloured.

Adobe Bridge had trouble bringing up thumnails for soemm images, and also viewing them - so they appeared pixelated and CS2 wouln't open them at all.

Pictures on the other memeory card okay.

thjis is the second card I've had trouble with in 6 months, all well looked after and bought from reputable suppliers (Amazon).

Does anyone know if this sounds like the camera orf the card. If the card (I hope, I can't afford a new camera), are Fuji cards known to be unreliable ? Any recomendations. should I switch to flash memeoty ?

Are you using a card reader or transferring directly from the camera?
Have you had successful transfers before? With RAW? With jpg?

As far as CS2 not opening the RAW files, you may need to update the ACR plugin from the Adobe site.

Do you ever reformat your cards?

I'm not entirely sure what kind of problem it is, but if you have to buy a new memory card you can get some great deals at newegg.com. I've ordered from them before and have had no problems with their service or products. I ordered the 2 gb transcend card-a fast card for a great price.

1) If you are using a card reader, try connecting straight to the camera. The problem might be your reader. Cheap fix.

2) Reformat your cards in-camera after you SUCCESSFULLY transfer files each time you use it. It'll keep the cards clean of ca-ca.

3) Blow out the card bay of your camera make sure no dust is making for bad contacts.

4) Try not to delete shots in camera.

4) Avoid cards of and above 4GB.

I imagine, you'll still run into bad cards (I'm all too familiar with the symptoms you describe). I only use SanDisk Ultra II, Extreme III & IV and LexarProfessional up to 2GB. After year(s) of usage, I say this: SanDisk is more reliable than LexarPro with the 10D, the 30D and the 1Ds Mk II.

The most frustrating thing about digital photography? Bad cards!
