Miya is no longer young and innocent. I caught her playing with her very first mouse. I think she would have played with and slowly gummed the poor thing to death if I hadn't taken it away. But I let her play for awhile ... you know, just to get the smell of blood in her. :-)

The other week our kitten brought us a present of a wood-pigeon, at least twice the size as her! Unfortunately must have been a good 30 minutes before we found it... but which time our hall resembles a scene from 'dawn of the dead'! |

My cats have brought back all sorts of critters. One time, while cleaning our living room, I found the legs and a couple feathers of a bird larger than a sparrow - but that was it. I was expecting to find the rest regurgitated up somewhere in the house - fortunatley we did not.
My dad had a cat that would consistently bring back baby rabbits. He put a bell around his collar and it stopped - for a week or so and then he started catching them again. My dad found the cat just sitting by the hole and waiting them out. He was a very patient cat.
Great series of pics you have here. The joy and playfulness can really be seen in your cats eyes.

My cat killed her first mouse the other day as well. Nothing special really except that she's an indoor cat.
..oh well atleast she's earning her keep (not that she'd need to) |

Yeah, ours are kept indoors as well. She didn't bring the mouse in from outside. It got in on its own, to its own detriment! :-)
Our other cat wasn't nearly as interested in the mouse. She just watched as Miya played with the little fella. I'm just glad she got it before we found out on our own that we had a mouse in the house!

We had two cats. One would simply catch and play with the mice. But never eat them. The other would come along after the first was done playing and eat the mice.
*lol* |

did you ever read an entire thread and think... "why the hell am I even reading this"?
Not an admonishment of the thread, but I have never had a cat nor do I particularly care for them, but I read every word here. I really think I am addicted to this site.

Poor mousey! lol I remember when our cat was about 4 months old. She got her first mouse. She didn't know what to do with it. She thought the thing was dead so she left it there in the middle of the kitchen floor. It was playing dead. Fortunately our wolf hybrid was on the ball, chased it to the bedroom and left it on the bed for me - she didn't kill it either.
I deleted the pictures a long time ago but I have one of the mouse in my wolfers mouth- all you can see is the nose and whiskers.
Ended up putting it in a container for the lil one and setting it free down by the river. |

My biggest concern was that she wouldn't eat the darn thing and instead leave the body hidden somewhere that we would never find until someday when we sell the house and move out.
So I snatched it from her before she could carry it off into another room.
