When looking at different cameras I'm interested in buying, I found that one (I can't remember which) has a function where it takes X amount of images, and turns them into an animated gif file - in-camera!

So, I'm just thinking - how about an Animation challenge? Users can take a series of pics, and using whichever Gif Animation program they wish, turn them into an Animated file. I'm sure there are freeware Gif Animators around.

File Size would obviously be a restriction, so the pics wouldnt be too big - maybe for this challenge, increase file size restriction a little? Users could submit any length of animation or resolution/height/width, providing it came under the file size.

Editing restrictions could be removed completely, but I'd be inclined to keep them in as much as possible, to keep the emphasis on the 'photography' skillset.

Time restrictions would obviously stay the same (all shots taken within challenge period).

Just think of the possibilities - sports shots, skyscapes, etc, maybe even plasticene stop-motion, if someone's that keen!

My camera doesn't take movie shots, and nor does the New Canon 300 (I think)

However, it will take timelapse photography so that's an idea...

That might be a bit restrictive for many...
but we could just do a sequence. Three, maybe four photos that form any sort of sequence

I REALLY like this idea... I'm sure there are lots of budding movie makers out there.
It is possible to do timelapse photography with any camera, and I'm sure there are lots of other creative possibilities if your camera won't do movies. Often, the most creativity happens with the most limits.

theres no restirictions on cameras, just some people will have to take more time doing it.

Doesn't sound too bad, just limit it to a number of frames...
but it wouldn't be real great quality due to gif compression....
if it appeared as a challenge, I'd go in it, but I don't know wether I would actually suggest it, due to the lower quality images that would be resultant.

Only camera I got that does movie is the ls443, and its awful, I'd just take 10 or so snaps and shrink/link them in gif.

Just imagine a DQ request, heres my 20 frame animation, and my 20 3.9M photo's...
yikes :p
