If you are using one of the Bogen tripod heads with their RC2 quick release plates/accessories, could you tell me whether the quick release bracket grabs the QR plate tightly enough? Does the connection stay tight with use, or does it develop a little play?

Basically, I'm looking for any feedback about the RC2 QR system, good or bad.

p.s. I know that the Arca-Swiss-type QR bracket-plate connection is very good; please do not reply if you *only* want to recommend an Arca-Swiss system.
Thanks!

If it's anything like the Manfrotto plate system, when it gets a little loose you can use an allen wrench to tighten things up on the thumb lever that clamps the plates to the head. I've had to do that twice.

R.

Yeah, it's the same thing. In the center of the bottom of the thumb release is a hex screw; tighten that up with an Allen wrench to remove play from the connection.

i had used the Manfrotto RC2 QR system but have moved to
the hex plate (QR Mounting Plate 3049) which I've found to work better for larger cameras

that being said, i had no problem with RC2 except when inadvertently putting the plate on backwards ;)

I use the RC2 QR and it works well until your lens / camera combo gets heavy. At that point a system that uses two attachement point sto the lens would work better. I even have a little trouble when using my Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR. The lens comes loose if I'm moving around a lot. The actual bracket getting loose has a fix as explained below.

Hope that helps.

I have it on both my tripod and my monopod, no problems on either one as far as coming loose. The extra safety lever is nice too just in case, but in my opinion is a bit too easy to inadvertantly switch it back without knowing. No accidents yet.

Also, I have a battery grip on my camera and when I attach the tripod to the tripod collar on my 70-200IS I have to mount it backwards (so the grip ballhead is backwards) because the quick release hits the camera grip before I'm able to get it into the grooves. Hard to eplain, but no big deal though.

I have tripods that have both the RC4 and RC2 that I use with my 1DMKII with my 70-200 2.8L IS and 100-400 4.5/5.6L IS lenses and they are both solid, although the RC4 does provide a more substantial snap in. I have even wanted to do a quick change over the the tripod with the RC2 and just screwed a spare RC2 baseplate into the RC4 baseplate on my camera.

I've had to do it once. That was quite a long time ago and it's been tight and issue free ever since. You can actually over tighten it to the point you won't be able to budge the release lever.
