if i want to update my photo, do i have to unsubmit it, then resubmit?
Or, will unsubmitting my pic, permanantly eliminate me from the challenge?

If it's in the voting stage it's too late. If it hasn't entered the voting stage you can reload a picture until the deadline.

If voting hasn't started just push "browse" and you should be able to find a new or updated picture.
Sometimes it's good to upload a picture to see if it looks right and make adjustment and reload a new one before the deadline.

You can change everything in your submission using the forms under your current submission (as long as the challenge hasnt started voted yet). To change the photo just use browse in the filename section and click on upload. Just remember to update it with the button at the bottom.
