I took this picture back in March:

because I knew about a photo competition themed on the famous Nikko Cryptomeria (Japanese Cedar Tree) Road. The deadline for entries was in August or September, but I let it slide by, partly because I'm not really confident of making a good enough print.

Today the newspaper published the winning entry...

mist among the trees.

Do you think mine is better? ;>þ (Notwithstanding the quality of a newspaper scan)

Well, now you will never know. So curse your laziness LoL

I like yours more, but it is difficult to judge from the colors of the newspaper.

Oh, yes - I hope to be able to get in to see the exhibition of the top 38 photos (out of 308) entries, in about three weeks.

Sorry, but I gotta go with Techno on this one. The water on yours just bothers me a little. It just seems to be shooting up from the bottom of the photo. It make me feel like I'm about to get swept downstream. I think if you had cropped up from the bottom a bit I would like it more. (don't get me wrong, I do like it and wish I could shoot something as nice.) The one in the paper just gives me a calm, relaxed feeling.

the composition and focus of theme is better in the newspaper...not that yours is bad or anything (because it's not), it's just that people are suckers for misty trees :)

Thanks. I see what you mean. Also, this isn't the final edit/crop, or even the shot I would definitely have used, but it's the one I still have on my computer.

It looks like I will have to ask advice for another photo competition I have the entry form for (somewhere) ;>þ.
