Well, as some of you might remember, 2 weeks ago I bought my first dSLR. The Pentax k100d. Well, I take the camera out of the box and right off the bat I had trouble. The shutter priority mode just simply would not work. Every time I put it in Tv mode it functioned as full auto (shutter and aperture changed automatically). The program exposure mode didn't work either. So I called Pentax and told them and they wanted nothing to do with it, they said it'd be best to send it back to the company I bought it from (butterflyphoto) and let them replace it. They offered to fix it but said it'd be about a month and I'd have to pay to ship it to them...which I didn't think was fair because it didn't function out of the box. So I paid to ship it back to butterfly and told them I wanted another camera because of Pentax's lack of support. So I went with the Canon Digital Rebel XT. Should be here Monday. |

Sounds like the same thing going on at Pentax. I told them I needed mine fixed and they said it'd be a month and I had to pay for shipping so I told them ok, and then they just told me to ship it to a certain address. Took no record of my info or anything. Anyway, I didn't ship it back to them. I called Canon and told them the same info as if I had one of their cameras and they said they would cover shipping. I called Canon, Sony, and Nikon and presented all of them with the same scenario and then told them what I was doing afterwards. Canon was the most helpful.

Anyone seen what Flickr is up to? Live data on what their users use as cameras for uploaded photos...//www.flickr.com/cameras/ and scroll down a bit for the graph.
Photos posted by canon dSLR uses (30D, 20D, 10D, 300, 350, 400XTi) 19.6 million
nikon dSLR (D50, D70, D70s, D80) 10.6 million
K-M (5D, 7D) 475,000
Sony (A100/Alpha) 83,000
Pentax (istD, DL2, DS, DS2, k100, k110) 673,000
Fuju (S1, S2, S3) 336,000
Neat to look thru all the stats.

I have a Metz flash (sold/serviced by Bogen in NJ) and it needed updated (the programming) to work with my 30D. I was told it's free - called them and yes, it is, including the return shipping(!). Just send it in. I was a bit nervous, but it came back in a week, no charge. Cool.
The camera biz is not all that big compared to some industries so personalized service like this (or whatever you want to call it) can exist.
Of all the photo company calls I've made, every single time a HUMAN answers teh phone - not voice mail, not some automated something. I like that.
