A tripod would be pretty useful for creating HDR images, too, so as to ensure that each bracketed image is the exact same scene.

One method for reducing shake that I'll be trying out is the 3-shots idea. Stick the camera on continuous and hold down the shutter, take 3 shots, then release. The first and last might have more shake than the middle, due to the movement as you press and release the button.
