Ok so I'm a little confused and this may have already been addressed but my eyes are too tired to scour the forums so...

Aging effects, are they allowed? Such as, added speckle grain or line grain in addition to perhaps a B/W or Sepia Tones.

Also want to know what the rule is about vignettes. Such as dodging or burning the edges to add to the aged look

New Advanced Editing rules:
May not...
use ANY editing tool to create new image area, objects or features (such as lens flare or motion) that didn't already exist in your original capture.

Is aging considered a "feature"? How about Vignettes?

May
add a border to the outside edge of your entry. Your border must be distinct and clearly recognizable as a border.

Is this the part that excludes a vignette if it is too sublte to be clearly recognized as a border? Or is it considered an acceptable photo enhancement and not thought of as a border?

Also

If they are not legal under the new advanced rules I mentioned such as are in place now for light on white, are they legal in the old advanced rules such as for Free study?

Thanks for any help!

Both are legal in Advanced (both the new and old Advanced Rules). The only thing that might get you into trouble is if you use a very heavy "texture" overlay including shapes (think age splotches). Under the old Advanced Rules, that would have put you at risk for DQ. Under the new Advanced Rules, you'd have to go further to risk DQ on those grounds.
The rule about borders stating that they must be "recognizable as a border" is meant to keep folks from adding image area (changing composition) by adding a border of the same color as a background.

Adding grain in Basic is also legal since using Noise filters is specifically allowed...

ok cool! I was worried about the vingette because I thought I remembered somone getting DQed for a real dark vignette making the photo look like there was a spotlight affect.

Ah the thin lines we dance across.
