I was going to add text but then I thought it might be a three-edged butter knife as opposed to a two-edged sword. I decided not to enter after that. ;-P

I actually thought there were several entries where the text was really well done, and the picture itself kinda stunk. I was having to remind myself to vote based more on qualities of the picture.

I saw the opposite quite a bit too (where the picture was nice, but the text was choppy, or used a crappy font), but I saw it work both ways in this challenge.

I had to vote for the entire package. There is no way I could possibly give a great score to a good photo with jaggy or poorly placed text.

I thought about loading Quark, just didn't know how that would jive with the rules. But, I guess it would be legal. I can't see why not, but I'm not willing to risk it... LOL

I've decided not to vote on the postcard set as from what i've seen (a browse through) it would get my worst set of scores ever, with lot's of 2's and 3's, so i've decided not to bother.

This was my problem. Not knowing there were fonts out there, but forgetting that I hadn't re-grabbed them after my hard drive crashed this time. (Okay, the real problem was a last-minute decision that I DID have something I could enter after all.)

I'm a PS idiot and I've never done a text layer before and just had to experiment until I got something that sort of worked, using the VERY limited choices available, because I didn't give myself time to learn the job properly.

So if I get a crap score there's nobody to blame but myself, but at least I did learn something useful from the challenge :D

I didn't put any text on my card because:

(a) A lot of postcards don't have text on the front.

(b) I didn't have time to figure out how to do a nice job in PS7.

In voting, I'm certainly not voting down a card that doesn't have text. Mostly, I'm ignoring it, although there have been a couple that were so bad, textwise, that I couldn't ignore it. (Spelling errors, large text that obliterated the image, illegible, that sort of stuff.) Those I did mark down. I have to say I haven't seen any where the text actually helped the picture.

Actually, I think these are some of the nicest pictures I've seen in a long time. Maybe postcards will make a comeback. 8)
