I don't know if anyone posted this, but the prizes are excellent.

Remember that all photo become the property of the sponsors. That means they own the copyright instead of you. If that doesn't matter, and in most cases what-the-heck .... go for it.

I don't believe that is the case, they mean the physical entry will not be returned, not that the copyright/image itself belongs to them.

From further down the rules:

As a condition of accepting a prize, you agree to grant Sponsors and their designees an irrevocable royalty-free worldwide license to reproduce and display the image, credited with your first and last name, in print and on the Web for the purposes of advertisement and promotion in connection with this Contest without further compensation, notification or permission, unless prohibited by law.

They don't own the copyright, you retain that but they do reserve rights to use your image as they see fit.
