I have almost saved enough from photography to get me a new computer monitor! I am currently using a 19" ViewSonic Professional Series P95f+ CRT. The problem I have is that even at the brightest setting, I can still not see all the blacks on the little bar. I want something that can be calibrated perfectly for photo editing. Also, I have heard wide-screens are awesome for using Photoshop. I feel like I am always rearranging my tools! And of course, the darn thing takes up SO much room on my desk.

I THINK I have chosen the one:
Dell 2407WFP 24" Wide-screen Monitor

I have seen a couple people here mention having one. What are your thoughts? Also, with the stand, I can not have it any higher than 18" tall. Will this monitor be able to squeeze in?

Any other alternatives I should consider?

Thanks :)

The stand is height adjustable.

I've heard very mixed reviews about this screen. Some very very good, but some "my eyes are bleeding" bad.

Thank you- I have read several reviews on this and they are pretty darn close to the Dell. The Dell is $100-$150 cheaper though.

Have you tried the contrast setting?
Maybe buy a calibration tool? To
be sure your monitor can't be calibrated.
If it can the extra money can buy glass,
or camera! ;)

Yes, I have messed with the contrast and I use Spyder2 to calibrate.

I have enough glass for now! ;o) Now I need some desk space...LOL

Just a side note... if you calibrate properly, that is, set whte & black points, gamma for each channel and color temperature, you will probably (read almost certainly) not be able to make out the last two of the black bars on the DPC voting grayscale. If you can, your black point is probably not set correctly.
Most LCDs are far too bright and need to be toned down as well.
I too have seen mixed reports on the Dell, BTW. Based on what I've seen, I don't think I'd chance it for photo editing.

The screen is great. I've had it for about 4 months. Worth every penny. Even Apple will make an occasional "dude." So I wouldn't worry too much about getting a bad monitor. I haven't had any problems.

Really? That is good to hear. I cannot make out the last 4 or so on the right side.

Yeah I don't hear many "it's ok" comments. They are either glowing comments or bad comments.

Thank you. Would you mind pushing down yours as low as it will go and measuring it? The hutch of my desk has an 18" clearance!
