I didn't find it in the FAQ and was just wondering... how does the deadline work on submissions and votes? Is the actual deadline midnight on the dawn of the deadline day? Is it US Eastern time zone or local time zone?

Sorry if this is posted elsewhere... i couldn't find it. It seems like a good addition to the FAQ.

Techically, it's midnight Monday and midnight Wednesday,

or deadline is 11:59:59 PM on Sundays and Tuesdays, unless it's a Free Study or speed challenge then it's . . . .

oh nevermind

Which is nice for us west coasters. We can see the results at a reasonable hour (9 p.m.) and hang out for a bit, watching the new scores roll in before hitting the rack.

On the other hand, those of us that wait until the last minute to submit, would appreciate another three hours to post-process. :-)

thanks for all the quick replies... maybe it's just me but i'm still a bit confused. Let's take an example. For the challenge, "The Year you were Born" it says:

Subnission Deadline: Tuesday, November 21st, 2006 (began Nov. 15th 2006)

Does that mean midnight Monday (US Eastern time) or midnight Tuesday (US Eastern time)?

It's the second midnight on Tuesday if that makes more sense. So end of day Tuesday or 9pm Tuesday your time.

It's midnight at the end of the last day listed.

A challenge that runs from the 1st to the 7th runs for 7 full days. You have from the beginning of the 1st until the end of the 7th.

Either I'm missing something or this was already fixed... the rules say:

Your entry must be: taken after the challenge is announced and before the deadline, based on the Current Server Time (US Eastern Standard Time) displayed at the bottom of every page on this site.

Which is correct... the Current Server Time *is* US Eastern Standard Time.

It's correct right now but what about after March 11 next year? It should have a more generic term like US Eastern Time in the parenthesis or drop the parenthetical just so there is no confusion when DST starts.

but this doesn't really say what you folks have cleared up for me today. The deadline is the END of that day. I think the rules could be worded to clarify this.

just my $.02 worth as a confused newbie.
