I know this is kind of stupid and that I shouldn't be complaining, but I have been hovering just beneath 6 all week for my Science entry and it's driving me mad, MAD I tell you! AHAHAHAHA!!!

I am oh so close to it... I can almost taste it. I know that I shouldn't feel this way, but a 6.000 would mean so much more to me than 5.9xxx.

That's it. Just had to get it out of my system.

I had a score like that for the Oops challenge!!! I did the same agonizing all week, but when the scoring was done and all the people that didn't vote 20% had their scores thrown out I ended up at 6.19 and 7th place! Boy was I surprised.

I've been a little confused by how the votes are tallied in regards to the less than 20 percenters. I thought their votes weren't counted until the 20 percent was met, then they were calculated.

Do they really show as counting during the week and then get tossed if the 20 percent isn't met by voting end?

Seems weird to me. :)

All scores show up from the start, despite if a person has not voted on enough images. Like you think about when i a challenge opens, and you get your first live scores pretty much instantly, thus it counts everything.

At the end there are also a lot of bad votes thrown out I think. Like people that give everyone ones's to boost own score.

Duh, I didn't think of that. Makes sense. Thanks!

So does the update stats "average vote" have any "real" meaning or relationship when it comes to the close of voting i.e. does the final average vote = the actual post voting average vote.

Just looking forward to see my placing in the Exposed Challenge.

:~)

I think it is pretty accurate. There are always some voters who don't do the full 20%. From experience the final score always goes up a little at close, I haven't experienced it going down at all. A few times my final score didn't change at all.

I think I saw somewhere that outlieing votes are chucked out when it does the final tally, which may account for the small rise that you sometimes see.

I've got a photo in all three challenges at present. On Friday all flipping 3 were at 5.9xxx and I have yet to reach the magic heights of a six, I've been holding my breath, as although it is silly, I would really love to break the 6 barrier.

Went away for the weekend, got back and 2 of them are on 6.0xxx, wooohoooo!!!!! Now holding my breath hoping they'll stay that way *laugh*

I think there are definately some petty little people who vote down others to boost their own place. Not my photos, as mine are mid range and thus I recognise some may love them, some may hate them.

I have seen some winners, stunning shots, absolutely stunning, where some moron has given them a 1. Sure, it may not be your favorite photo, but a 1 means a photo is pretty much crap, and there is no way no matter how much the photo doesn't work for you that someone could seriously call it crap ..... unless they are trying to up their own placing. Nothing can be done, but I do feel such people are a little sad, and I would LOVE to see someone justify a 1 on some of the past challenge winners .... ahh, the wonders of anonimity.

Now that is an aspect that I had not thought could/would happen. I suppose I am too trusting or naive but I would hope that in the scheme of things the totality of voting would even out overall.

Roll on midnight, just where will I be placed?

Sadly it does happen it seems.

For example, in flight:

Absolutely fits the challenge, so there's not that excuse ..... someone thinks this photo is genuine crap? Well, they gave it a 1. This photo could be the cover of just about any nature magasine I've seen.

Same with this amazing photo, which got a 2 (interesting no 3's). In challenge "Insects" so again 100000% perfectly in the challenge. This warrents a 2?

There are lots of examples.

Sorry, but I honestly can't see any reason for the marks in those examples, unless it is someone else trying to get ahead.

I take your point!

I have just revisited my own previous challenge entries. And though my skills are average(?)I would like to hope they do not slip into the "lacking in value....".

I have commented elsewhere as to how I attempt to vote based on image quality and challenge meeting BUT clearly others appear not to behave as 'honourably'.

So be it, this is a large community and I have big shoulders.
