Hi,

I've notice that most of the pictures I take have a poor color gradation. For example the sky: instead of being a smooth transition from dark to bright blue, patterns appear (pixelissation...) and the rendering is poor. The quality of my pictures is poor compare to the ones I see on DPChallenge. Oh, I've forgot to say that my camera is a Sony DSC-V1, dont know if it can help.
I've set up the image quality to "fine", and I've tried all modes (VGA, 1M, 2M, 3M, 4M and 5M), but did not notice any change.

I'm wondering if I can increase the quality of my pictures (gradation of the sky for example) with Photoshop. If yes, could you explain me the different steps?

Thanks!!

You shoulnt have this problem with a camera such as the Sony DSC-V1. The first thing I would check is that you dont have any picture effects set such as Solarize. This would give the effect that you have described on my old S70. Hope this helps.

Also check your display settings. If you're running Windows, right click on the desktop and click "properties". Then select the "settings" tab on the Display Properties dialog box. Make sure "color Quality" is set to at least 24-bit color.

Hi,

It seems that it's better when I switch to 24bits/pixels on my desktop. But the quality is still not so good compare to picture from DPChallenge....

Cuold you post an example? that might be helpful in diagnosing the problem.

Actually, yes...
But after the current challenge. I've focused all my last pictures on the challenge, and noticed this artifact on my pictures. But I'm going to take pictures this afternoon for sure, and post some.

Thanks!
