For those interested, I have other photos of the pilings found in my photo this week. Promontory Point is a fascinating place to be sure! The old rail system went around the north end of the Promontory Mountains where the famous "Golden Spike" is found today. IN 1905, they build an amazing thing: a system of pilings that took the railroad straight across the Great Salt Lake. Now, the pilings are being removed and the lumber used for things like expensive fireplace mantles, hardwood floors, and even violins. I hope they leave a few of these in, though, just for us history buffs and as a legacy to the past.

. . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . .

There are a few more in my Great Salt Lake folder.

This would be a fun place for us Utah DPCers to meet!
