I seem to have deleted a ton of of photos, but they are not in the Recycle Bin. I found some of them and restored those, but these others are just not there.
I got Office Recovery, but it does not see anything at all - even though some of the files ARE in the bin. These are all Abq shots I cannot replace. Any ideas out there?

If they are still in the recycle bin you should be able to right click them and recover them. I did a quick google and found a lot of programs that say they will restore files from your bin and other places (including your camera card) even after the bin is emptied...like this one here.

Good luck

by the way, what version windows you using?

papagei have you formatted the CF card yet?
If not you should be okay. I haven't used these but have read many success stories! Good luck.

DID YOU DELETE THEM FROM AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE?
If so, they would be straight deleted and not moved to the recycle bin first.

(sorry about the caps lock on the first sentence!)

These were files deleted from an ext HD. Some of them appear in the RecyBin, but not all of them (bin was not emptied). I accessed the RecyBin on all my drives and they all show the same files - I suppose they go onto C drive?

Anyway, I got Media Recover trial version, but it is STILL running - after 9 hours! I see now, that I needed to put the recovered files onto another ext drive - I just put C drive into the form and there will not be enough room. I am hoping I can change that after it finishes scanning. I have not seen any Raw files coming though - just jpgs, so I wonder if it is finding the ones I need.

This all started because I was organizing my 27,000 images and saw that most of them were pointing to the wrong ext HD - so I have been weeding through them, deleting the images in the catalog/HD and then moving the files I want to keep back in from the correct HD. I made my mistake when I started on Oct - those files were in the correct place to begin with and now I don't have them to move back in!

Aarrrgggh!

I recently had a problem with my CF card - Lost all the images etc.

See thread:
Lost Photos

I don't know if this software will work for your problem - but if it's an external HD with a USB connection I think it might. I am a mac user so couldn't use the free trial. Even still, it was $40 very well spent. I managed to recover all the files I thought I had lost.

Good luck

I read the threads last night before choosing a program to download. Today I saw that the advanced version which will actually *restore* a file is what I needed, so I downloaded that. It scanned everything in just a few minutes. I like the feature of letting me know just how much (percentage wise) a file can be recovered. Many are lost forever because I had added a bunch of files (my Hawaii shots) to the HD after this initial problem. I know- I KNOW! Lesson learned.
Anyway, I have a list to recover, but am now waiting for the folks over there to confirm my order and send me the registration code. And that could be a while (sigh). I might just take a nap....

One thing to keep in mind, if you delete files on your HD or even accidentally reformat (don't laugh I've seen it done) then most of the files are usually recoverable, but keep in mind in order to recover the most files possible STOP using the drive immediately and DO NOT write any data to the affected drive as the file data is still in the drive sectors and when you write new files to the drive the old "deleted" data gets over written...
