Hello All,

I was wondering, when printing photographs from a standard desktop printer (I got one free from Dell with a computer) do I need to but special ink and paper to print quality photographs?

Thanks!

Are there any general rules for printing though? The pictures I printed came out very flat. Is this due to ink or paper?

Hey! A thread I may actually be some help with!!!!!!

I use Canon's Photo Paper Plus, Glossy, and I like it the best of all I've tried to date.

As far as flatness, color, brightness, etc, a lot of it depends on your monitor accuracy, personal taste, and individual quirks of the printer itself.

You CAN set up the printer and monitor to get exactly the same view and results, but to be honest, that seems like so much work that I have just gotten to know that my printer seems to print a little darker than I like so I lighten my pics to compensate for that.

You may waste some paper 'til you get the hang of it and know your equipment, but in the long run it's sooooooo much cheaper than paying others to do the printing.

I have been most happy with my HP 3210 All-in-One printer. It's the lowest end printer that uses separate color cartridges, the cartridges are relatively cheap at Staples for genuine HP cartridges, and you get a $3.00 coupon for each empty you bring back. They have a three empty limit per purchase, but sometimes I just make two purchases.......in a very short amount of time. 8>)

Anyhow, that's my $0.02 USD, hope it helps!
