Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8

A friend of mine is looking for a cheap $100-$150 p/s camera. He knows you won't get all the extra features, but he just wants it for snap shots.

Any suggestions??

The bottom of the nikon coolpix line, runs for about 150 bucks. Simple camera and people seem to like them.

Is the A630 worth the difference over the A530 or A540 ?

I'm not sure if the A630 is worth the extra cost, but I know that you get a lot of bang for the buck with the A530.

Canon Powershot A540 $170 You could try this. It has shutter, Aperture, and Manual mode, 6 megapixels, and you can mount a filter adapter.

Edit: I second the vote for the Nikon Coolpix line, some great cameras from them. I own two Coolpix cameras (including an old 950 that still shoots well).

Pice of advice: Stick with Nikon, Canon or Pentax. From my experience with the Kodok and other lesser manufacturers, the quality just isn't there.

I too would suggest the A530 or if you can spend the extra few $$$, go for the A540.

Check out this review page at DPReview for size info. It is not for the A430 but rather the older, very similar, A520.
