My picture got DQ'ed,

i am not going to complain about that, but i think it would be great to know what are the effects filters allowed, and which one are not.

the only answer i get is the "Cloning, dodging, burning, etc. to improve your photo or remove imperfections or minor distracting elements, etc. is acceptable. However, using any editing tools to duplicate, create, or move major elements of your photograph is not permitted."

I mean Photoshop has the list ready, i think it would be great if the SC can tell us which ones are acceptable and which ones are not, as that will help me, and am pretty sure quite a few people here, avoid getting a DQ.

cheers,

Which challenge? Because as I understand, there is no more Major Elements rule...

This gets a little sticky for them to define what EXACTLY is allowed and not allowed, so they have a Site Council vote instead.

For example I'll sometimes use the Watercolor and Crosshatch filters--not to add a watercolor feel or anything, but to enhance the texture of the photo. In this photo for instance:

These two filters together, faded to about 15%, enhanced the texture of the rock. I used it on the large image, then resized afterward, so one would hardly be able to tell anything was done with these filters at all. So I think that using them is in keeping with the rules in this instance.

So I'm grateful for the Site Council's policy on not elaborating in great detail what tools should and should not be in a photo. I'm sure there are other tools that could be used in similar ways, such as the Graphic Pen or Photocopy filters to enhance certain textures or emotional qualities without making a photo into a drawing or something else.
