Today I went for a walk in the park. Sorta. Two of my good buds here, Miss Frankie and Miss Beverly, took me to Lost Maples State Park here in lovely Texas, USA. Why? To do a 10K volksmarch (another stamp for my very new Volkssport card!) and to see the fall colors. Yes, there are fall colors in Texas, but you do have to look.
We got there about 10:30 or so in the morning and it was a lovely clear bright blue day, and warm. OK, got to be hot, but what can you do? It's only mid-November, you know. At any rate, at 10:30 we set out...
See? Color even in the parking lot! But wait, there's more!

And then it got fun. We went up. And up. Then up some more. And when I thought maybe we were at the top, we went up more after that.
But eventually, we did make it to the top, where we had this lovely view into the valley below where we'd started (and would eventually have to go back down to...)
And let me tell ya - going down is WAY harder than going up. Loose rock for the most part, and steep. I stowed the camera in the bag and figured at least if I fell, it would be somewhat protected. Ended up getting a cramp in my quad about halfway down which made it even more interesting. But all in all it was a lovely walk in the park and well worth the two hour drive each way and the $6 entry fee.
Have a great weekend, y'all! :-) |
