I have to shoot a concert tonight. The building is small. I have a Nikon D50, SB-600 speedflash, 50 1.8, 70-300mm, 18-55mm. Any suggestions?

Personally I stick with the 50mm as your other two lenses aren't very fast. If you use the flash. Try to using it only for fill bouncing it off the cieling with a slowish shutter speed.

Concert shots aren't that great without the ambience of the enviroment, so flash kinda makes them look amateurish.

With the f/1.8 you should be able to do fairly well without it, depending on lighting.

Any idea of what kind of stage lights you are working with?

If you can get close enough the 50mm f1.8 will be your best tool. I've shoot a lot of pictures for bands with it. Kow that I have the sigma 30mm f1.4 I use this instead if I can get in to the stage (wich is impossible if your not hired to do so or the band guys are your friends).

Regarding the other two lenses I would really forget the 18-55 if you have the 50mm.

Regarding the tele, it could be used in some situations if the light is strong enough.

But the most important thing to remenber to save you from trouble is the metering of the light. You can get away some times if you have the light (even if there's not many avaiable) evenly distributed thru the stage. If you have a strong focal light the metering mode will fool the sensor (because it does a medium value, and you will have some very dark areas) and will overexpose a lot. You should do point metering in the face/skin or in the intest poin of your subjec (and do the according correction the color if it's not skin).

By the way don't be affraid to pump up the iso. I've shoot at iso 1600 (with my d70) and printed 20x30cm and you will need a loupe to see some noise... but you must expose properly.

And yes, always shoot raw.
