I am planning for my own family portrait in December. It has been a few years since we did a family portrait, although we had one done in Oklahoma this past summer with my husband and our three boys. We are expecting a girl in December...hopefully before Christmas. I am trying to plan our seating and background possibilities...whether it is in front of the Christmas tree or the fireplace (which is very rustic and plain). The baby will be quite young, so I think that will rule out taking shots outside. What I am wondering is do I hold the baby, or does my husband? Is there some sort of standby rule that I don't know about? Our boys are 9, 7 and 1. The seven year old is autistic which throws a bit of an added wrench in the mix for me. Okay...more information than you need to know. I am just hoping to get some ideas from you all on poses for a larger family....please post your family portraits...Thanks!

I'm no expert, in fact, I think most of my "family pictures" which include babies don't do the babies justice (they're never looking in the right direction and the adults don't help at all - they try to help, but only make things worse).

Anyway, here are some of my family portraits in case you find something useful:

The first one in the above set was painted by my wife using Corel Painter. It started out as a photograph, and then she painted over it.

This one reminds me of the game show: The Family Feud
