Well after a couple of years here I keep learning the same thing...
Unless the challenge is specifically a "low key" challenge don't try it in a normal challenge ;)
Over saturate, over sharpen, over contrast and burn baby burn. Now if it's a basic challenge the same concept except don't burn the heck out of the photo. AND oh ya, forgot, make the colours bright and vivid, nothing like the real world. Remember this is photography not like some of the other sites which are more of a post processing challenge. Remember all sunsets are purple, all sunrises are pink, all clouds are dark burnt gray, and all people look like plastic dumbies ... now we're talking real photography.

Just having fun ... but so real at the same time ;) No attacks, just a click back to reality again ;)

It may partly be a result of poor calibration across the hundreds of monitors out there. Blacks are hard for many monitors and also are most apt to show noise.

That being said, some people have made their DPC living off of low key.
