The Random House College Dictionary meaning of urban:
1) pertaining to, or comprimising a city or town
2) living in a city or cities
3) characteristics of or accustomed to cities; citified

Now what I would like to know is how #44 Little Barn on the Prairie, #59 Peacefully Picturesque, #78 Old Houses By The Sea and #91 African Suburbia came in ahead of many pictures that totally depicted the challenge and were of good quality.
Personally I would have given #44, #59 and #78 very high scores in another challenge because I thought the photos were totally awesome especially #59.
When I vote I mark the photos to this criteria: 1) does the photo meet the challenge, 2) technicality, 3) originality
I am totally disillusioned with DPC voters on this challenge because no one seems to understand what Urban Landscape really means.
This also has nothing to do with my own photo as I believe I was rated fairly.

I'm sorry you feel that way sonnyh, but it clearly stated in the challenge Shoot anything with buildings - from cities to villages.

The Admins clearly stated that any type of building could be shot and that's what I considered during voting. If it had one building it met the challenge requirements.

Maybe the Admins should have entitled the challenge Buildings¸, I don't know.

Go with what the Admins give you and put your dictionary on the shelf.

I agree that some of the more rural shots were on the edge of the challenge concept but the African shot, I gave a 10, I loved the photographer's take on urban, the balance, the color, the entire shot.

If I were to take points because the photographer didn't meet my expectations of the challenge, unless it's extremely obvious, that, to me would take away from the message the photographer might be trying to convey.

My 10 points breaks down basically to:

Meeting the challenge 1 or 2 points, if they meet it without a doubt, 2 points, if they are close but maybe didn't quite get the message across, 1 point.

Overall quality of the shot: 2 points

Color Balance: 1 or 2 points

Lighting: 2 points

Appeal: 1 or 2 points

Attention grabbing: 1 or 2 points

Focus: 1 or 2 points (some shots are meant to be in a soft focus or the motion shots but when it's just flat out of focus, they lose points)
