I agree that some of the more rural shots were on the edge of the challenge concept but the African shot, I gave a 10, I loved the photographer's take on urban, the balance, the color, the entire shot.
If I were to take points because the photographer didn't meet my expectations of the challenge, unless it's extremely obvious, that, to me would take away from the message the photographer might be trying to convey.
My 10 points breaks down basically to:
Meeting the challenge 1 or 2 points, if they meet it without a doubt, 2 points, if they are close but maybe didn't quite get the message across, 1 point.
Overall quality of the shot: 2 points
Color Balance: 1 or 2 points
Lighting: 2 points
Appeal: 1 or 2 points
Attention grabbing: 1 or 2 points
Focus: 1 or 2 points (some shots are meant to be in a soft focus or the motion shots but when it's just flat out of focus, they lose points)
