This is my fiancee who I have shown on here before - but she is now trying to get into modeling and these are the pictures that we were able to take yesterday. No studio, no professional lighting, just a 30D and a lightsphere I couldn't get a good picture with for the life of me (none of the shots used the lightsphere).

Anyway...we'd both like some comments if possible...

Left some comments.

Edit: BTW, a comment for her... "Go For It." She's definitely pretty enough.

Kevin, I forgot to meniton this... when using the LSII Clouded on my camera, I find it best to bump the flash exposure compensation on my camera to about 2 stops over-exposure and then stay in the wider apertures . Hope that helps.

yup, you'd think that TTL would compensate fully, but it doesn't get it quite right.

One thing I would suggest is that if she wants to be a fashion model, and these photos will be for her portfolio, is that she look away from the camera instead of directly at it. It's usually better to show that she knows that as a fashion model you're there to sell the clothes, instead of people focusing on her. She is absolutely, beautiful, though!

Well, TTL doesn't know that the flash has something in front of it, so you need to tell the camera to compensate.

She's very cute but I would prefer to see a wider array of emotions and situations...particularly since I am a buyer of models services for several clients. Too many up close shots and not enough variety are my only concerns.

Here are some great ideas from one of the top model photographers in the business.

The main idea he tries to get across about model portfolios.....creativity. Model portfolios are about showing potential advertisers what range a model has. Pretty faces are a dime a dozen. People able to portray wide moods, ranges of age and a side range of product categories are more likely to get a look.

Joe Edelman also was interviewed by the Studio Lighting guys Joe Edelman Interview Just find the podcast and download..it is a great interview

Those long softboxes to each side are just all the rage now, huh? It was the beauty dish not even a year ago it seems.

Joe Edelman shoot's with a lot (I mean A LOT ) of lights. That's his style for his type of work which is specializing in model portfolios. I have bought the services of several of his models for clients. If there is a trend I see its the "natural" look that looks like no light at all. But thats in ads. For a models portfolio I would say I want to see well lit, simple set-ups that give me a sense of the models personality.

I also see in the OP's first post some color problems. Oversaturation and sharpening issues. Technical issues are usually overlooked by people looking for a model but if this girl is super serious about a model career..I would fork out the money to get a good professional to shoot her portfolio. My daughter is in theatre and several of her actor friends have asked me to shoot a portfolio and I declined. I am not a fashion photographer, I am an advertising and marketing specialist and buyer. I will shoot test shots to pass those to the portfolio photographer's I use..even though I could get passable shots made.

Joe is pretty expensive though :-/
