Yes; 7.0 is the earliest version from which you can upgrade directly to CS2.

If I read this correctly. You can upgrade from any version of PS...including Elements 4.0. The only difference is the price.

Added: Any version of PS, except Elements, Album, LE or PhotoDeluxe, price is $169.00. Adobe Photoshop LE, Adobe PhotoDeluxe, or Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 or earlier, $499.00.

This is good info. I had not checked the Adobe site in some time. It looks like thye have changed their upgrade policy, and that is a very good thing.

Oooh, oooh, nice!
Not that I have $169 at the moment, but maybe with my Christmas bonus...

Agreed, I was just checking to make sure I didn't misread it. I got PS6 full version on EBay for $60. After I get my new laptop and after I get used to PS6, I can order CS2 for $199. Better than $649 for the full version. Or I'll wait forCS3, if they'll allow the upgrade to be the same.

I'm excited too, since I've have PhotoShop 5.5 for ages.

Students, teachers, and parents of students might also look into Adobe's Educational Pricing program ... usually costs less than half of full retail*, and gives you an upgrade path for future versions.

*e.g., the whole Creative Suite 2 for $399

the way the website reads it sounds like you could have PS 4.0 and upgrade for $169.
When I did it to CS, they required PS 6.0 as a minimum. Probably could find PS 6.0 and below for cheap on EBay. (For instance)

Just a note to all to *be careful* when buying off ebay. Make sure the seller is clear that the software you're buying is a previously unregistered full version. If it's been used (and registered) you will not be able to upgrade from it.
