Well, due to something I had no idea I had done, I found out after rollover, that I had accidently had submitted my entry into the wrong challenge. I asked for, and have finally received a personal Disqualification, as I do not want to see my image get slaughtered due to my mistake.

In all fairness, the matter was handled really well, and I for one, am and always will be upset by my mistake.

When I first uploaded my image, I noticed it was too dark, so I removed it, and replaced it again, and that must have been why I accidently uploaded into the wrong challange. I did not even notice that I had done this.

I have always had a personal fear of this happening, so will definately be more careful in the future. My fear this time also came from the wording of both challanges, as they did confussed me somewhat, re the similarity of them both. I also have noticed that I wasn't the only one in this position.

My deepest regret, is that I love this image so much, as it is a very personal one to me, as my son was visiting his father, for the first time, since we wer told of his illness, so this make this image so much more personal, and so very special to me.

I also like to mention the wonderful support I got, at some of the comments I received, in what they said, and I thank them so much for that. You know who you are, and again, thanks for your kind words. They definately meant such a lot to me at this time, as I felt bad enough, re my genuine mistake.

Let this be a warning to others to make sure it never happens to you. It is very hard to deal with and hurts so very much deep inside. I will always love this image forever and a day.

It is worth 10 disqualifications, just to see it finally removed, and finally not getting discredited by its score, and its many comments.

Thank you for listening.....

I know there were several that I had commented on that did the same thing. I hadn't gotten to the landscapes in portrait orientation (the one it sounds like you accidentally uploaded into) so the ones I commented on were landscapes that were in the wrong challenge. It seems to me that maybe there is something SC could do for everyone who did the same thing as I too had to check a couple of times to make sure I was in the right challenge. I didn't want to give the scores I gave to those in the wrong challenge but, I wanted to make sure they realized why they either weren't getting votes or were getting low votes even if it wasn't deserved.

I don't know that there's anything they can do but, its something they (SC) should maybe discuss amongst themselves since you aren't the only one. Maybe exempting obvious wrong challenge entries from counting in their averages? Don't know... not up to me.

No matter what anyone ever says about a photo of mine if it has personal value even if it is technically the crappiest photo in the world then it still has that value to me and no one can change that.

I like you very much for two reasons, and the first is what you have just said, as it means such a lot to me knowing that you support me at this time.
The other reason is because we have a very similar name, re Sherryl or Sheryl as yours is spelt. It is an unusual name, and I have alway been so proud of it.
You are my newest "DPC" friend, and lets keep in touch..... Thanks heaps for you comment.....I have now added you to my list of favorite photographers as well.....

Yeah we have cool names huh? I've always loved the way my mom chose to spell it. Only ran into two people in my life who spell it this way. The second time was when a gal called me because she wanted to know if it was a misspelling in the phone book because that was how she spelled hers. It was strange.

Hey can you post that photo here or do you have to wait til the challenge is over?
11/02/2006 01:18:58 AM · #5
I think it is best that I wait, re the photo, as I don't think it is right to add it, until the challenge is over.....
I will do that when, and after the results of that challenge have been posted.....

Probably a good idea. Can't wait to see it.

I am so sorry Sherpet! I wish you'd reconsider and post it in your portfolio. I'd love to see it too! We know you didn't mean to do it, so the photo will be marked with a nice pink color going thru it...Just look at it as a highlighted photo!!
We all know the truth, so don't feel too bad!
Besides, as soon as you DO post it, it will get many views!! Think of it as a bad thing turning into a good thing!

Sorry about your misadventure Sherpet, but I have no doubt you'll bounce right back and smile tomorrow... :)

I don't think it is the right thing to do, until the challenge is over and I respect that, as that is the way it should be.....

You will all see it, as I love it, so I will make sure that it is in this thread when the results are known, and also make sure it is in my portfolio for you all to see, as well......

Thank so much for your kind words of support, as I really do appriciate it so very much..... No wonder I love DPC so very much, as you all mean the world to me.....

I'm so sorry Shez (((hugs))) I agree with Becky, think of it as your very special highlighted photo. I can't wait to see it.

Oh, Sherpet. I'm so sorry. Yes. I did the same thing in this set of Challenges.

I pulled mine out an hour or so before the Challenge ended to make some minor changes. Slipped it back in and looked forward to some nice votes on a special image.

Oops. Slipped it in the wrong Challenge.

Because it was an image I really liked, I could not stand to have it sit there and gather sometimes sympathetic (sometimes not) comments. So I had it Self DQed and after the Challenge is over, will proudly have it in my portfolio.

I look forward to seeing yours as well.

Hey! We're in good company! And we both know we will never do that mistake again.

Oh, we are a pair of silly billies, arn't we..... I was just so emotional about it. due to the fact the image meant so much to me personally.
I am now ok and fine with the decision, but for a while, it was panic stations, there for a couple of hours.
I just didn't think straight, and didn't know what to do, but in the end, the result is the "best" for this situation.....

I too had many many comments, some a little hurtful, and unnecessary, but the good ones made up for it..... We now share something very special and quite unique, so lets always remember that as a positive, and move on.....

ps; I have also just sent you a personal message..... and thanks heaps for your support.

I'm pretty dismayed to find that you have had hurtful comments on an image just for sticking it in the wrong challenge. I'd try to take them with a pinch of salt.

I've noticed a couple of photos in the wrong challenge this time around, but I've tried to be at least helpful in my comments by saying what I think about how the picture would be if it was in the correct category.

Personally I would find no shame or dishonour from leaving my photo in the wrong category. With my current scores, that's probably what I should have done ;)

If your image means a lot to you, then be sure to display it proudly after the challenge is over.

Don't feel bad. I've seen quite a few make that mistake. I just didn't comment or vote on those.
11/02/2006 04:49:16 AM · #15
I commented on those shots, but only with a comical Homeresque "Doh!" I hope that wasn't taken the wrong way :(
11/02/2006 07:58:48 AM · #16
No, I didn't really take anything the wrong way, but after you read "DNMC"..... over, and over, and over again, it really begins to mildly upset you..... You know its in the "wrong" challenge, and can do nothing about it, until the power of be, actually take it out, after you personally ask for a "DQ"..... and a comment like this "see ya at the other end of the challenge", that kind of hurt a little.....

So sorry to read your post Shez... it was an easy mistake to make judging by all the others that did the same thing.. I took the easy way out by being a chicken and not entering either one.

Hi
I feel for you, I done the same, but luky for me I realised in time to change it, I have only just joined the site, and this is my first entry, how bad would that have been, if you love the photo, it is not important what others think, I look forward to seeing it.
I also think with two so simaler challange names, it should be recognised, how easily this mistake can happen.
I wish you all the best Ken

Hi Shez,

I only briefly paged through both challenges but I'm quite sure I know which one was yours, and it is indeed a WONDERFUL photograph - I was looking forward to the story behind it (I recognized Peter) so I'm now really looking forward to seeing it in your portfolio. I know the rules for outtakes and all, but I think that refers to forum discussions. There's nothing that says you can't quietly put it in your portfolio and those of us who want to go look for it there can find it.

So sorry about the error, but I do truly admire the way both you and Alice simply took charge and did what you needed to do and didn't complain to the SC.

You're a classy lady. :-)

Just wanted to let you know, there is no record left on your Challenge list of a self DQ. No pink banner. It just doesn't show up on your list.

Go ahead and put it in your portfolio. You'll want it seen. Then, enjoy it the way you intended it to be enjoyed.

Take care.

this has come up a lot in the past and it's happened to many people (even some SC members). we've discussed our options, but the consensus is that there's just not much we can do. so many people start voting right after the rollover that there's no way we can allow people to start moving their entries around.

in essence, the entire week before the challenge goes into voting is a "grace period" that lets you catch your mistakes. unfortunately that doesn't often help us last-minute submitters.

sorry about your luck.

It is a great shot! If you haven't seen it, you definitely have something to look forward to at the end of this challenge! And I agree, the pink highlight will be perfect.

Thanks for looking at it Rob. I'm not one of them but there are so many in these two challenges that got confused that I was just hoping that there was something.
