This is the third Bokeh challenge that we have had on the DPChallenge and I do not think that people still know what it is. As far as I can tell from going on-line Bokeh is not how out of focus the backgound or foreground is, or having those little light balls in the photo. Boken is a soft feel of out of focus. It is where each out of focus elemnet blends together smoothly instead of harshly. If you do get those little round light balls they should look almost out of focus too, they should not have sharp edges. I think some people need to redifine their idea of Bokeh, IMO. So if a photo is very out of focus or not so out of focus, it can both be Bokeh.

Check out the link above it describes Bokeh as:

...and I think the forum search tool is under-utilized. There are numerous threads out there already discussing this subject. Before, during, after, in-between challenges...pick one. You'll find a gazillion different definitions, and many, many points of persuasion.
If you really believe this (your quote - "... I do not think that people still know what it is."), then perhaps YOU need to do some studying.
How's your score BTW? :D |

I did do some studying, not just from the forums either, I got on-line an looked at photos that we of bokeh. There are a wide variety of depths of focus and types of focus. If people would study things like this they may have a broader view of the subject matter.
