How about everybody stop bashing anybody right now ... it has to stop sometime, so it may as well be here.

There's nothing wrong with using a flag in a challenge (I've done so myself), and especially in this one.

If people want to discuss the symbolism or "message" evoked by any particular image they should make a comment on the image's discussion thread, not here -- at least until after the voting is completed.

What about the bashing I took? Why can I not get angry but others can? Why do you say "I" turned in into bashing when I too took heat?

You are missing my entire point. You are feeding their comments by getting upset and lashing back. Don't let the opinion of a few people get you all worked up. You can stand up for what you believe without having to get defensive and critical. Let them have their opinions. Doesn't mean that they are right and you are wrong. It is just a different view. And yes, some ignorance involved as well. If I let every comment that I have gotten in these forums get me worked up, I would have a stroke. You are taking the heat because you are letting this get under your skin. Let it go. Your opinions are yours and they have theirs, that is all it is. Sorry that it has got you so worked up. You should do as I am about to, leave this post and press on.

This has got to be the funniest day I have ever seen on these boards. This day of hyper-treaded argument mayem needs a title. Something that gets all the threads involved. Like "The great voter scandal/American flag controversy of 06'"

I walked out onto a rock (I probably should not have been standing on for my own saftey) the other day, and to my right I could see where a giant crack had opened up in the granite of the side of a cliff. It was seperated at a v and was probably 20 wide at the top and 100' strait down in the middle. Someday this huge side of the mountian is going to erode from the water dripping down in between and that whole mountian face is going to crash down and probably take out a couple small farms below.

Challenge = "Wind", and how to show it.

Things that visibly and obviously show/capture the wind = draperies, flags, sailboats, and umbrellas turned inside out (to name four common themes in the challenge).

Anyone who's trying to lay political overtones on the depiction of flags in this challenge has to be out of their mind, IMO.

R.

Agreed. Hell, I'm tired of seeing all those water photos from Iceland in every single challenge and on occasion that one scuplture thingy but I don't go assuming they worship it. They feel it meets the challenge hence it was entered. Same goes with what everyone else submits. What would be great is if more people actually did enter photos that held some story or belief that at least would make some of these photos worth the pixels they are displayed with.

I just read that as "you are wise beyond your ears."

I think I need a break

Well, here in the US, the neocons (Bush, Rove et. al.) have tried, and to some extent succeeded, in redefining patriotism as agreeing with their policies.

It's as if you don't support the Bush administration's every move, you must be a card carrying member of Al Quaeda.

I love my country, but I'm embarassed by its leaders.
