What are the steps to add a gradient fill to a curves adjustment layer? I know Steve is an expert in this and hopefully he will see my question and help.

Well, I'm not steve and I'm not an expert, but I've had some fun playing with learning how to use gradients lately.

I am not entirely clear as to what you are trying to accomplish here, but I would guess that it is something along the lines of a gradient as a mask on a curves adjustment layer.

If so, all you have to do is use the gradient tool and draw a gradient on an empty layer. Use black and white as foreground/background or do a white fade to transparent if you wish (remember that masks use white areas to apply the effects of a layer. Transparent would essentially have the same effect as black. personally, I use black/white.)

Once you have the desired gradient made, control a to select all and then go to your curves layer and add a layer mask. it will contain your gradient and will govern the area/strength of effect of your curves adjustment layer.

Hope it helps!
