Wondering if the Canon 1.4x extender works on the new IS version of the 70-200mmL

Anyone know? I can't find anything online yet...

Go to this page, then click on the Features tab, then click where it says click here for a compatibility chart.

i still don't see where it is compatible with the brand new lens -- the IS version of the 70-200 f/4 that just came out.

Probably not updated. Since the 1.4x extender is compatible with both the older 70-200/4, it is a near certainty that it will be compatible with the new IS version.

Did the 70-200mm F/4 L IS come out yet? If so, where, I have seen it as order now and we will ship when it is ready for delivery. Also, is $1250 gonna be the starting price both in shops and online - I don't have that much experience buying lenses ...

Thanks.

Thanks. Wonder if it is available anywhere in Alaska soon, Ritz Camera has it in as being in backorder ... on a different note, I can get the 100-400mm IS L glass at roughly the same price, but it is a bit slower and twice as heavy. And then I saw a 50-150 2.8 APO from Sigma, but without image stab, and being APO, not Canon L, this is about $1000 retail. Confused, along with the rest of the majority of the Canon users!

So, someone tell me what better lens I can get, just to convince me I am doing the right thing!

I need to travel as light as possible. I was looking at the Canon L 100-400, but it is twice as heavy and not as fast. I mainly shoot handheld (that is why I want the IS version), as I seldom have the possibility to carry my tripod with me. I love to do candids, as I prefer my pictures to depict life as it is, not someone smiling, looking straight into the camera and doing the V-sign. When I say candid I also mean where people know I am there, but I like to avoid in-your-face intimidating shots.

I have heard that the 70-200L is a very sharp lens, so compared to a 300mm, I might get about the same from a crop in 200mm, because of the good sharpness?

At almost the same weight, it is a question for me about

1) Is there a better lens for me?
2) Is the IS worth the double price from the non-IS?

Until someone convinces me otherwise, I will get that 70-200IS real soon ...

If money is not an option, i would personally go with a 70-200 /2.8 IS.

I have used slower lenses and they are a drag.

For $560, the Canon 70-300 IS is also stabilized, but much smaller, lighter and cheaper. It's a little slower, but nearly L-sharp and offers more zoom reach.
