My problem is a bit weird.

Every shortcut in my computer opens adobe photoshop elements. Simple as that. Photoshop still works fine, but EVERYTHING opens photoshop, so you can guess how annoying it is.

I turned on my computer in safe mode, and uninstalled it, everything went back to normal. I re-installed it, and everything was fine for a few days, now its back to being stupid. I have done this 3 times.

Is there any way I can keep elements and not have it be so stupid? Otherwise i'll have to uninstall it and leave it that way.

is Elements the default program set to read everything?

check in Control Panel, Folder Options, File Types. This will list all the file extensions. Anything you don't want Elements to open, you can change the program here.

i.e. anything with a .jpg you can say 'Open with Window Picture Viewer'....

I had this problem once...every email that I got that had a photo in it, opened Elements to let me view the photo.

If thats not what you meant....sorry!

Thats the same thing I was thinking... sometimes when you open up a program it asks if you want it to be the default program for everything. Then, I'll accidentally just click on yes, and not realize what I'm doing until it's too late! :P

No this is not it. I went to the place you told me to in control panel. Elements isn't set to open everything.

Its not just for photos either. I'll click the mozilla firefox shortcut on my desktop and have elements open up, or if I try to open MS paint from my programs > accesories, Elements opens up. The only way I opened my browser was by accessing the help in elements.

thanks though. I'll check around still to see if I might have something like a default on, double check.

Anyway, shouldn't this have reset upon uninstallation?

When was the last time you scanned for viruses? Or spyware?

I scan weekly with norton. I'm clean as a whistle.

Can you look at the properties for a few shortcuts and see what they're set to open? And what happens if you make a new shortcut... does it do the same thing?

I don't know if this link will help at all, but it seems to be a similar problem to what you're describing.

Wierd - all links open the same program.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot. this seems to help. Right now I uninstalled it so I could use my PC properly from the time being. I'll re-install it and fiddle with this. That forum topic is a lot like what I was dealing with, unfortunately the bit about corrupt .exe files isn't what i was dealing with. Thanks again!
