I spent from January '86 to October '89 on the USS Memphis. I will go through some negatives and scan some more sub photos...

I'd already tagged this one:

It's odd to see a call to support troops all over the world. What if my troops are currently shooting at your troops?

Support the troops anyway. They usually don't have much say in the politics. :-)

Actually Civil Air Partol, but they look like real troops!

CAP is an Air Force auxiliary, and even though it's not "troops", it's just as military as anything else in the Air Force.

Although yeah, it's kinda like 4H for airplane geeks.

(And a long long time ago I was a CAP Staff Sergeant.)

I wish I had something to contribute. Like Melethia said, the troops on the ground rarely have any say in the politics. Heck, many of our troops in Iraq joined the reserves as a way to pay for college during a time when seeing our country at war was unfathomable. Who in the late 1990s would have ever seen this coming, really?

I didn't see it coming until November of 2000.

LOL...
The small spaces never bothered me (in fact, I like small, confined spaces) but some guys went beserk! Fist fights were not uncommon, either...
