I was asked to take some pictures of a friends motorcyle for a Xmas present. I need to change the background (darken it, or blur it or change it completely) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have the CS2 Classroom in a Book, but have just started reading it. I don't really have any experience with it. I believe I need to work with Layers, but my attempts have failed. Any help you can provide would be wonderful. Here is a copy of the picture.

I like what you are doing and would like to offer a few suggestions, if you can arrange another shoot with your friend's motorcycle. I have a thing for shooting cars mostly, but the concepts are workable with motorcycles.
Here's a few samples from my portfolio:
Try to capture a different angle, don't be afraid to get up close or lay on the ground and shoot up at the car/train/plane/motorcycle. If you have the option, place the vehicle in an area where the background is far from busy or where the busy background compliments the subject.
I know this isn't exactly what you were asking for. |

I know exactly what you are saying, I did try to do that and will post some of those pics. Unfortunately his girlfriend is the one asking for the pictures and she wants that angle. I agree with you and tried to take some pictures like yours (LOVE THOSE BY THE WAY).

I did something similar with my dad's airplane last year. The way I solved the problem was to put nine squares of different shots in a single frame - Each individual shot ended up being 5"x5". The straight shot was the center, and a bunch of different macro/abstract type shots surrounded it. Honestly, very few of the shots would stand on their own very well, and if I'm really being honest the straight shot was my least favorite of the group, but when presented as a group they were breathtaking.
I would go ahead and arrange a second shoot, and get all the fun angles to complement the straight shot. Get into the details of the machinery, the swoops, the gears, etc. Make it into a supermodel. ;-)
