Life isn't perfect, and in basic editing we can't make it perfect (and, IMO, shouldn't always try to)! |
But you do have control over how to photograph a subject. IMHO, a *good* photographer can take a good photo of *any* subject. |
Oh, I agree with you, for the most part. What I was referring to is someone who says, for example, "This shot would be perfect if you straightened this little section; it's crooked", and the spot they're talking about is part of the architecture. How about suggesting something I can DO something about? Or at least don't vote someone down for capturing someone else's imperfections? And when what they're pointing out isn't actually an imperfection, but part of the design?
I know my shot isn't great, and I agree with most of the comments I've gotten. I just wish folks would take a couple seconds to actually think about what they've typed before they hit enter. (And keep in mind, this is on behalf of all entrants, not merely speaking for my own shot>) |

Yeah this challenge is a "haters delight". So is BoKeh form what I have seen of the scores.
Just looks like most would rather look for what is wrong rather than look to see what is good about the image. But I guess that is human nature. I don't know. Maybe it's cuz I think my image is the cats ass compared with the rest of the images. :-P

Sorry about that. LOL Yes it is a euphemism for the best. Of course I know it's not and I kinda said that tongue in cheek. |

I certainly didn't care where mine finished, but I will echo your comments here. I have received more negative comments (with a decent score) on this challenge, then perhaps any other challenge I have entered. Interesting.

Maybe it isn't obvious that the "crooked" section is part of the architecture?
Or maybe it is?
Just a thought?

I knew you were joking, I just wanted to clarify whether it was positive or negative.
Although I should have guessed really.
I don't think I've ever seen anyone enter a shot and say "this shot is really crap"!

it maybe a haters challenge, but i must admit that i've seen a lot of DNMC's.
And some are not even close to being subjective.
Some have amazingly just been entered in the wrong challenge!
And some have obviously not read the description and have just read the title.
That being said though, even most of the DNMC's have been pretty good and gotten 5's and 6's from me.

There where several photos that had nothing to do with this challenge. I gave more 1̢۪s then any other challenge I have voted on. I don̢۪t understand the concept of entering a photo that has absolutely nothing to do with the challenge. And I am not talking about photos that rely heavily on title. I mean no connection to the challenge at all. Automatic 1 for me. |

I hear ya. And agree. Mine however does meet challenge (at least literally, maybe not exactly in the exact essence of the challenge). And my comments aren't DNMC, but more like "umm, i don't like this and this"...which again is cool, I just wanted to comment to let everyone know that this challenge as a whole is simply peculiar.

and that is totally your perogative to vote a 1.
I just hardly ever vote a 1.
The photo would have to be DNMC and so totally messed up in every aspect of photographic intergrity for me to vote a 1.
Like I said, some of the obvious DNMC's in this challenge garnered 5's and even a 6 from me.
Simply because it was a semi decent photo and there may have been a connection to the challenge that I was getting?
That being said, I rarely vote 10's either.
I haven't seen many shots that are "perfect".
Forgive my running on, but I'm just feeling a bit chatty tonight!

I'm on the way up (started at 4.2) although I think my final score will be in the 4.7 to 5.2 range.

I like your idea for the 5-10s only for those who meet the challenge.
Also, I just joined this site not long ago and don't know the lingo.
What are the wierd acronyms? |

I just wandered through the Games Challenge and found some really entertaining images. I voted pretty high on the really good ones.
And then there were some that obviously were trying to enter the Bokeh Challenge and got confused. After commenting on each of these few who wandered far from home, I also gave them an honest vote. Enough folks will probably punish them with the Ol' "1" vote.
I decided they could stand some photography encouragement.
My compliments to everyone who entered this Challenge. It was a tough one. (I entered the other one and am tanking...) |

Uggg! I somehow knew this wasn't going be a strong entry even though I clearly met the challenges parameters. It's just hard, ya know, shooting a picture called "after the game" without the visual interest or story telling of the players and/or fans....I did my best....hangin' in there by the skin of my nose right now and praying I stay in the '5' range. Go figure.....
Clearly there are entries with people in them - good captures but not following the rules of the challenge. |
