Just wanted to remind you guys how important it is to get out there and meet other photographers in your area. Join associations, clubs, Get-togethers, whatever. If you see someone shooting, go up and introduce yourself.

I've gotten so much help from people I've met in my area. Help with pricing, help with the local "in-crowd", help with keeping the appointment book full.
I met a guy at a Highland games last year and he helped me to get some newspaper credits.
I met a portrait artist at a mini-seminar last summer; who is now undergoing a mostly bed-bound pregnancy; and has sent me 7 portrait clients in the last 3 months because she scheduled them and now can't shoot them. *grin* The night I met her, I thought "what a pain in the ass, she's one of those talks-too-much people and that drives me crazy" but look how the contact worked out.

Keep chatting with others, and be willing to learn from them ... or teach them, remember it works both ways!

Yep, it's nice to connect with other photographers around. I'm in a club that meets once a month, we get to show some our pictures at the local civic center twice a year for a month at a time.

When I was shooting this thing in town on the 4th of july with hot air balloons, a guy with a digital camera was chatting with me for a while about how cool his 10x zoom was, and how he loved being able to see the pictures he took so easily. I don't think many other people have chatted with me when I had my camera, though, and I haven't seen many others shooting around here..

Yup... the SD dSLR photo club has a lot of peeps that shot for dough. All different types from Studio, Travel Rags, Real Estate and we even a have a (sports shooter) yacth race (LA) shooter that will get others on the press boat from time to time. There are all kinds of opportunities for referals. And besides that they are a fun bunch to hang out with.

Networking is about seeing and being seen. Get your work noticed and then when someone is overloaded they feel comfortable with you shooting their gig.

A differt form of Networking or Circles is doing an industry or a niche type shoots where the personell move around...for example the Hotel or Hospitality Industry as they call it. Jump in and do a Hotel Event or Brochure, and a year later your contact moves from one hotel to another, you now have two places (this one is sure fire, trust me) and it continues from there.
