Just back from a trip to LA. I have one question. How high is your insurance rates? OK, two questions. How can your guys/gals put up with all the traffic down there? I go down couple times a year and it just amazes me. Traffic, Traffic, Traffic!!! On the other hand, now I know why my market area does so well. (I'm in the auto lending/leasing business).....LOL

I will say this - if I have to be stuck in traffic, I'd rather it be LA than anywhere else. In general, they're better drivers.

When your stuck in traffic, doesn't matter if your Mr.Magoo or Mario Andretti. I'm originally from NYC, so I know traffic also.

Its funny, instead of how many miles it is to the next exit, they tell how long in minutes & hours it will take you....Lol. Haven't been to NY, my bother inlaw lives in Virgina and tells me its just as bad as LA....Lol. This last trip really made me appreciate the NW.

I totally agree! I lived there for a few years and many other places since and no one else can drive any better!!!

I donno about that: navigating Portland freeways at rush hour was a chilling experience for me a month and a half ago. Or try leaving Cape Cod on Sunday afternoon in the season, when the traffic can (and usually does) back up to a standstill 10 miles from the bridge...

Ya, traffic does suck around here. LA is a very big city, spread out over a large area so when everybody gets on the freeway it just bottlenecks. Sometimes a simple 20 minute trip on the freeway takes 1 1/2 hours. Knowing surface streets helps sometimes (if you're in the right neighborhood). I have a Sirius radio in the car, and the LA traffic channel helps sometimes.

I used to live and work in LA (well Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades) and it was a 10 mile commute up the Pacific Coast Highway for me. In the morning if it rained there would often be mud slides and those 10 miles could take over 2 hours. Unfortunately lots of people get the idea to take side streets as well and they took even longer. At 2AM I could be home in under 15 minutes seeing maybe 3 cars on the road.

I'm not one for road rage but I could definitely understand how people can get it. Being stuck in a little metal box - seeing your exit ramp just ahead and having it take 30 minutes to get there can be very frustrating.

How can I put up with it? I didn't, I now live in a small town in Virginia :) I do miss LA sometimes though - amazing movie theatres.
