Hi guys, I'm fairly new to all this, and only just recently started to do this with a bit more seriousness.
My problem is that i have decided to try using Raw and I have about 20 photos on my camera but when i connect it up to the computer it doesnt recognise any of them, there were 4 jpgs and they were seen but thats it, i have rawshooter essentials and photoshop Cs2 and i cant seem to get either to work. Was hoping someone could give any kind of idea as i have a trip with my uni's photography society tmoz and i'd quite like to have the entire space of my memory card.

| Did you try the EOS Viewer utility or Digital Photo Professional that came with your camera? |

I use Picasa from Google, it'll recognize RAW files and download them automatically.
I've since stopped bothering with the boxed apps for import and organization. I have 30,000+ photos in it, and it's still truckin.
No, it does not edit your files EXIF data on import like ACDsee does. I have no clue how that myth got started, but I've survived a DQ request and a Ribbon inspection with files imported with Picasa.
A better program is probably Extensis Portfolio (website down as of 9:40 EDT) but it's pretty expensive.
I, personally, can't stanned the canned software that comes with the cameras.

I believe that there is some sort of problem reading RAW files from a camera connected using USB (at least with Canon, as far as I know). From what I remember, using a card reader is the preferred option. The computer will definitely see the files then.

i connect using usb all the time... a card reader is preferable, but if you dont have one, use canons fileviewer utility.
when you plug in the camera does a menu come up asking you what you would like to do with the photos?

| Are they CR2 files or CRW files? If they are CR2 files you might need the update from the Adobe website. I don't know about Raw Shooter Essentials though. |

| you will need to use the Canon software to pull RAW files off the camera over the USB cable. IMO, you are better off getting a fast card reader; you'll get much faster transfers, and you can just drag & drop, no additional "transfer" software required. |

| Thanks for all the advice, i had to change it to ask for a choice of software and iv managed to pull the images off the camera. Means iv got a clean card for the trip to the butterfly farm. Will post pics if there are any good ones, anyway its nearly 5 Am so thanks for your help guys. |
