I took this picture today with my 30D and 24-105mm F/4 IS USM lens. Aperture: f/4, ISO: 200, Shutter: 1/200
I've had a 20D for a couple years and recently purchased an additional body, the 30D, and the 24-105mm lens so my wife could have my 20D with kit lens. I have been looking at dpchallenge for about 6 months and just joined. I am looking to learn more about photography...I'm addicted.
My wife is wanting a series of BW photos to put on the wall as you walk up our stairs. This is the first one I think I'll get printed and thought I'd ask for feedback. TIA
John Jared
Changed the photo to the thumbnail...sorry!

woah it's huge
edit: this came out really well. Good tones. I don't care for the expression though.

Little large for our dial-up friends. Can ya make that a thumbnail to your portfolio?
That 24-105mm is something. I keep seeing 'glowing' reports about it. Humm$$, I need a winning lotto ticket.
I think your shot is sweet, innocent and shows a real kid. You should print this one. Keeper! |

In regards to the image, in my opinion, needs to be softer or sharper, as it seems to be in between. The bokeh is great in the background here. Had this been mine to edit, a tad higher contrast might help, in addition to a bit more attention to bringing some detail out in the eyes. An added film grain too kinda gives it a more emtional feel too in my opinion.
(open each in their own new window, then switch between them to see changes)

Ok, I have tried an edit on one more picture and I think this one came out great. I like the suggestion on the grain and eyes and I think this captures it. As far as expressions those are like many things and subjective...mom really likes these type. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Sorry, I didn't read the What Is The Critique Club? post before posting. It should have gone in the Individual Photograph Discussion. I'm sending a message to Manic to see if it can be moved. Thanks to those who left comments. |
