I wonder, Is there a relation between lens quality and sensor noise??

I just received my Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 two days ago, did a couple hundred shots to test it at different ISO settings and it seems to me that the noise is way below the level it is with my other lens at least until ISO 400. Could that be possible?

at the same apertures or at 2.8?

Sensor noise is a result of increasing margins of error in the sensor, not the quality of light. When you increase sensitvity, you are essentially increaseing the acceptible margin of error from the sensor

It seems more likely to me that you are attributing something to sensor noise that isn't. Can you post examples?

I got a lot cleaner night long exposures with the 28-75 than with the 18-55 kit lens, but I'm still not sure why. There were some color artifacts and what looked a lot like noise, even though the noise reduction was on. Similar settings too.
