| My computer does not see the RAW files I am taking with my camera. I have tried downloading a RAW file viewing program, using Photoshop, transfering straight from my camera, and using a built in card reader. I can't think of anything else to do. My computer can see the JPEG files I take, but for some reason doesn't realize the RAW files are there. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

You need to download the RAW viewer from windows. Then you will see your thumbnails.

Just for info, when you plug the camera in and it shows the camera icon in my computer, the RAW files on the 20D do not show up in that view, only JPEGs.
They will, however, show up if you use a memory card reader to look at the CF card, or if you use Canon Utility to transfer the files. |

I'm a RAW newbie myself and know EXACTLY how you feel about not being able to see your RAW images. Please feel free to ask me questions if you want a new person's view on RAW who has started using it and is a bit ahead of where you are at.
The Canon Digital Photo Professional utility (DPP), which I think is what you are using, is fine. I downloaded and use the Microsoft viewer as suggested by others and I use that because I do my conversions from RAW in Photoshop CS2.
Don't know what image editing software you use, but I do my RAW conversions using Photoshop CS2 and that works well. I'd recommend studying closely your conversion software product, whatever it is, closely. There is much you can do during conversion "developing" your digital negative. You will want to understand everything there is to know all about that.

Hi, I just downloaded this, it's showing all my Canon 20D and Nikon D70 files but not my Canon 30D files. Does anyone know why?
Thanks

You need Version 3.6 of Adobe's Camera RAW plug-in. |

What Scalvert suggest's is just for Photoshop. Each RAW format is camera model specific. You might just need to download Microsoft's latest RAW image viewer software. But if Microsoft's Windows RAW image viewer does not yet support the 30D then you will not be able to view it in Windows, but will still be able to with the latest version of Canon's DPP.

Planning on shooting RAW for the first time this week. This will be a helpful link if I have the same issue.
Thanks everyone.
